Children & young people

Every child is unique, with their own personality, talents, dreams, and challenges.
Yet nowadays, children and young people are often given a label far too quickly. Sometimes a diagnosis can help us better understand what is going on, but for me, the label is never the focus.
I prefer to see the child. To see who they truly are.
What makes this child happy? What are their strengths? Where are they struggling? And what do they need to regain confidence in themselves?

Drawing on my many years of experience as a teacher, special educational needs coordinator, and teacher in secondary special education, I have had the privilege of working with many different children and young people. Through these experiences, I have learned that no two children are the same. What works for one child may not work at all for another.
During our coaching sessions, my dogs and I create a safe environment where children and young people are free to be themselves. There is no pressure to perform. Through play, being in nature, and spending time with the dogs, space often emerges for children to express their feelings, build self-confidence, and gain new insights.
We talk, we walk, and we do exercises together, always in the company of the dogs.
And sometimes, a dog says more than a thousand words.
Children and young people often feel at ease with dogs very quickly. Dogs do not judge, have no expectations, and are completely themselves. This makes it easier to relax, to reconnect with their feelings, and to gradually come closer to who they truly are.

Coaching can be supportive in situations such as:

  • insecurity or low self-esteem
  • ADHD, ADD, autism (ASD), or Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
  • high sensitivity and sensory overload
  • difficulty managing emotions or anger
  • social skills
  • bullying or being bullied
  • fear of failure
  • changes at home or at school
  • parental separation or divorce
  • loss and grief, for example after the death of a loved one or a beloved pet
  • discovering strengths and talents

Coaching can also be valuable when a child or young person is coping with loss or a major life change. Children often express grief differently from adults. Sometimes it shows in their behaviour, while at other times they withdraw into themselves. Together with my dogs, I offer a safe place where every emotion is welcome, without the need to put everything into words immediately.

The most important thing to me is that every child can once again experience:
“I am good enough, just as I am.”
From there, space is created to grow in a way that is right for that individual child.
Together, we will explore what your child needs. Not by focusing on what is ‘wrong’.
But by building on what is already there.

From a place of calm.
From a place of trust.
From a place of love.

Is your son or daughter longing for more calm, greater self-confidence, or support with a challenge they are facing right now? Please feel free to get in touch. Together, we will explore what best fits your family’s needs.
